Album "Fungi & Slime Mold"

White Slime Mold_False Puffball

Description

This is Enteridium lycoperdon, False Puffball slime mold on rotting wood in Linn Park, Scotland. The snail is an innocent bystander but gives a sense of scale. The slime mould has two phases to its life cycle: an actively feeding plasmodial stage and a reproductive sporangial stage. I believe this is the plasmodial phase which is mobile and is multi-nucleate, formed by the fusion of single cells and typically amoeboid in its movements, through cytoplasmic streaming.
